Student Employment Opportunities

Before you start a job application make sure you have the following information ready!

  • Who are your references?  What is their contact information? (IMPORTANT- Have you asked them to be a reference for you?  That's the first step!) Think of adults that know you (not your parents!) and could speak to your responsibility/talents that apply to the job you are seeking.

  • What is your availability?  How many hours a week do you want to work?  Think about your other obligations and try to be as accurate as you can on the application if they ask what days of the week/times of day you are able and willing to work.

  • If you have worked somewhere before, make sure you have the basic information of the last three places you worked. Things you might need to know: Business phone number/location, manager's name, date range of employment, what was your job title/what were your job duties (ex: Crumbl Cookies, 701-xxx-xxxx, March 2024-June 2024, cashier)

  • If you are going into a business to pick up or fill out an application in person, consider your appearance and manners!  Sometimes step one of the hiring process is a manager giving you the application themselves and talking with you briefly.  If your clothes look unclean, you have poor hygiene, or you have bad manners, that could impact the likelihood of an interview even if "on paper" you look like the perfect fit for the job.
