ESports
Esports is a competitive video game program designed to help athletes work in a team environment as they compete against teams across North Dakota and Western Minnesota. As it gains traction in the Midwest, more is being done for our students to help them connect to colleges and gain the skills needed for scholarships. Current games include competitive Chess, Rocket League, League of Legends, and Valorant (parent/guardian signature required), with plans for more to be added as the program expands.
Expectations include that students be accountable and punctual when games are scheduled, have good communication on their availability, and they must be eligible to play – grades before games. Captain and leadership opportunities are also granted to students that demonstrate these skills. Depending on the game schedule, we meet Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during the season, with games slotted for a 5PM start time. The Preseason starts late November and regular season runs through the end of March finishing off with a state tournament. Additionally, we meet Tuesdays (and sometimes Fridays) in the off season. Recruiting for the next season will begin in March and will run through the Preseason. We stream our games when we can, so we are always looking for individuals wanting to learn how to stream and shout cast.
This is an inclusive environment where all are welcome. We have some coaching options available in-person and others offered through our vendor for those that want to learn more about the games they currently play, or want to learn something new. We ask for a positive attitude, respectful conversation, and being open to learning and growing as a team member.
