Head Coach Huanzhong (Dan) Gu

Coach Gu brings extensive coaching experience and strong connections within the Fargo-Moorhead tennis community to the Sheyenne High School Girls Tennis program. As both a Sheyenne parent and coach, with two daughters who have been part of the program, he has built lasting relationships with players, parents, and fellow coaches, giving him a deep understanding of the team's culture, traditions, and pursuit of excellence.

During the 2025 season, Coach Gu guided the boys team to an undefeated season, capturing both the EDC and NDHSAA State Team Championships, while also leading the girls to an EDC Team Championship. Individually, the program produced both the Boys and Girls State Singles Champions.

In the 2026 season, the girls team qualified for the NDHSAA State Tournament, and Sarea Gu successfully defended her State Singles Championship, highlighting the program's continued success and commitment to player development.

These accomplishments reflect Coach Gu's emphasis on strong fundamentals, competitive preparation, and long-term athlete development.

Outside of tennis, Coach Gu is a Senior Software Developer in the Department of Psychology at North Dakota State University, where he designs and manages software systems that support cutting-edge research in cognitive and behavioral sciences.

Passionate about developing both athletes and young people, Coach Gu is committed to fostering a competitive, supportive, and growth-oriented environment where every player is encouraged to reach their full potential—both on and off the court.
